TN Govt to initiate action against erring hospitals
Chennai, Aug 29 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today warned action against private hospitals and voluntary organisations conducting health and medical camps without obtaining permission from the District Collector and Public Health Director.
Health Minister M R K Panneerselvam issued the warning as the free eye camp and cataract surgeries conducted by the private Joseph Hospital in Perambalaur, resulted in loss of vision to the people, who availed the facility.
Though the Government was clear that private hospitals and voluntarty organisations should conduct medical camps only after obtaining permission from the district and public health authorities, this hospital had conducted the camps without any permission.
In all, 68 people from Villupuram District had attended the camp, of which, 65 people had lost vision in one eye. As directed by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, they were paid a solatium of Rs one lakh each, Mr Panneerselvam said.
