Rs 6 lakh gold ornaments stolen in Madurai
Madurai, Aug 29: An unidentified thief robbed gold ornaments weighing more than 71 sovereigns valued at Rs six lakh from a goldsmith, here recently.
According to police sources, Goldsmith Habib Mohammed of Purasawalkam in Chennai preferred a police complaint at Therkkuvasal Police Station only this morning though the theft reportedly took place a week-ago in the city.
Habib Mohammed used to procure golden bars and make jewellery for supplying them to various jewel shops in Madurai.
While he was riding a motorcycle to supply the jewels kept in a bag, he received a telephone call on his mobile phone.
During telephone conversation, Mohammed mistakenly kept the bag on the motorcycle, which was robbed by an unidentified culprit.
Immediately after, the goldsmith returned to Chennai without informing the police.
However, on the advise of his friends he preferred a complaint to the police today.
