Patna, Aug 29 (UNI) Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee(BPCC) president Anil Kumar Sharma today alleged that utter failure of the Nitish Kumar government in taking the adequate flood protection measures was the reason behind the catastrophe-like flood situation in north Bihar.

After visiting the flood-ravaged areas in Supaul, Madhepura, Saharsa and Purnia districts, Mr Sharma said the flood situation would not have turned so grim if the preventive flood protection measures had been taken by the Nitish Kumar government earlier.

Erstwhile Congress government and other party governments used to successfully control the similar situation earlier but the NDA government had utterly failed in sensing the inherent danger and taking the preventive measures, Mr Sharma said and demanded stern action against the people responsible for the failure.

The Chief Minister should have informed the Centre about gravity of the situation earlier but by the time he urged the External Affairs Mminister Pranab Mukherjee for seeking administrative help from the Nepal government for strengthening and repairing works of Kusaha based Kosi embankment, it was too late, he pointed out.

Mr Sharma said the Centre had extended more assistance to Bihar for relief than the Chief Minister had sought from the Prime Minister during his meeting with him in New Delhi on August 27.

He dismissed all sorts of dissidence in the party over his nomination as president of the BPCC, saying the Congress president would take appropriate action against them in due course.
