NHRC notice to Orissa Chief Secy, DGP on violent incidents
New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Orissa Chief Secretary and the state's director General of police on incidents of violence in the state after the killing of Swami Laxmanananda and four others.
In a notice issued to the Orissa Chief Secretary and its DGP, the NHRC asked them to submit a report within two weeks on the incidents of violence in the aftermath of the killing of the swami and four others by unknown assailants on August 23, an NHRC spokesperson said.
In the aftermath of the murder of Laxmanananda, mobs attacked the Christian community across Orissa. According to the All India Christian Council, media reports indicate that properties of thousands of Christians were burnt in the violent incidents while several nuns were sexually assaulted and priests killed in their homes.
