Mamata washes her hands off yesterday's siege to Tata Motors
Singur, Aug 29 (UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today washed her hands of yesterday's siege to Tata Motors's small car project here.
Addressing a gathering from her dharna manch, she said, ''Neither have we have applied any force to prevent anyone from coming to work nor were my party workers anyway involved in yesterday's gherao of the plant. '' '' The workers have not come to work on their own as several workers have not been paid their dues by the Tata Motors, '' she stated.
Regarding the blockade of the NH 2, she said, '' Our party workers have not put up blockade on the Highway. The CPI(M) is resorting to slander campaign against my party. '' Work had come to a grinding halt at the project as the indefinite siege forced the authorities to call off operations for the day.
'' Our workers are not attending work today. We are assessing the situation as of now. There was no shift in the project since this morning, '' a company spokesperson said.
The indefinite dharna that entered the sixth day today took a heavy toll on the world's cheapest car project, a day after a section of agitators picketed before the main gate and prevented the exit of the employees and officials till late in the night.
The dharna led to the blockade on the National Highway 2, running through Singur, halting tens of thousands of trucks and other vehicles carrying various goods from vegetables to medicines.
