Chidambaram speaks to Agriculture ministry on sugar subsidy
Mumbai, Aug 29 (UNI) Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram today said that the subsidy extended to sugar exporters should end.
Talking to newsmen on the sidelines after launching the Currency Futures trading at the National Stock Exchange here he said he had already taken up the issue with the Agriculture Ministry. ''Subvention given for sugar exports must now come to an end,'' he said.
Indian sugar exports are expected to reach 4.2 million tonnes in 2008-09, including about 2.2 million tonnes of raw sugar.
