New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) With the voices of disapproval regarding the handling of the killing of Swami Laxmananand Saraswati by the Navin Patnaik led State Government, growing in Orissa BJP, BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley today left for Orissa to attend a 'pre-scheduled meeting'.
BJP Vice President Vinay Katiyar is already in Bhubaneshwar, discussing with the party MLAs, who have been publicly voicing their displeasure about the inaction in nabbing the killers of the slain Swami, as stated by the party earlier. The Swami, who was firmly opposing conversions of poor tribals by the missionaries, was attacked in the past by the very forces indulging in conversions, the legislators have alleged.
Meanwhile, Mr Jaitley downplaying his visit said, he was going to Orissa to attend a meeting organised by the Legal Cell of the Orissa BJP, scheduled one and a half months ago. He said the BJP wanted restoration of law and order in the state and the arrest of culprits who had killed the Swami.
Asked if he would talk to Orissa Chief Minister Navin Patnaik, the BJP leader said Mr Patnaik too was expected to attend the same function. But that may not be appropriate forum to discuss the issue, he said.
Touching upon the divide of Jammu and Kashmir on the Amarnath land controversy, Mr Jaitley who has been handling the issue said, the talks between the State Government panel and Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti had suddenly appeared to 'go slow' after a positive beginning.
If the things get settled the Army can be moved to the Line of Control, to handle more serious issues like infiltration from across the border, he said.
