15th NSCI-Rajiv Gandhi Marathon Run on August 31

New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) The 15th edition of the NSCI-Rajiv Gandhi Marathon Run for school children from the slum and jhuggi-jhonpri clusters of Delhi will be flag off here on August 31.

Over 15,000 school chldren from Delhi's government, MCD and NDMC schools are expected to participate in the races to be held in two age groups in both the boys and girl sections- 6 to 10 and 10 to 14 from the Ambedkar Stadium to the NSCI gate after passing through ITO and Mathura road.

Organiser of the Marathon, Subhash Chopra said, ''races in the senior girls section will be held first at 0900 hrs followed by the junior girls races (6 to 10 years).'' He said, after a gap of one hour, the boys races will be held in the 6-10 and 10 to 14 age groups.

''As in the past, the Rajiv Gandhi Run will carry a total cash prize of Rs 80,000. During the last fourteen years, Rs 44 lakhs have been distributed as scholarships,'' he said.

Chopra also informed that the first 100 finishers -first 25 in each of the four groups- would be given Rs 100 each as monthly encentive scholarships till they complete their higher secondary education.

The first five finishers in each group will be presented Rs 1000 each, from 6 to 15th positions Rs 500 each, and from 16th to 25th positions Rs 250 each while the balance 75 will be given Rs 100 each. There will be a total prize money of Rs 80,000, he added.
