Thermal Unit closed due to boiler leakage
Rupnagar, Aug 28 (UNI) The power shortage in Punjab was set to deepen as one unit of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant was closed today due to boiler leakage.
According to sources, the unit no.1 of the thermal plant was shut this morning and would take at least a day to be recommissioned after repairs. The unit was generating 50 lakh units per day.
The power shortage of 224 lakh units of power increased further due to closure of the unit of the Rupnagar Thermal Plantforcing the PSEB to impose power cuts of 5 to 6 hours duration in the state.
The power availability in the state was 1507 lakh units against demand of 1731 lakh units The thermal plants of the state were generating 390 lakh units while hydro projects were producing 249 lakh units.
Meanwhile, the two units of Lehra Mohabbat thermal plants, which were closed two days back, have restarted power generation, sources said.
