Gandhinagar, Aug 28 (UNI) Local star Sweety Patel and top seed Sunyasakta Satpathy of Orissa are sharing top spot with seven points each after eight round in Under-11 Girls' category in 22nd National Chess Championship for boys and Girls, being played at the Preksha Vidhya Bharati Institute here today.
Sweety had a marathon battle with black pieces against Dharni Sree R of Tamil Nadu (5.5) in the English Opening game. Dharni had offered Sweety to split the point, but she refused and went onto win to grab the full-point to take her personal tally to seven points and to maintain lead with Sunyasakta.
Sunyasakta defeated her opponent Ashwini Umesh of Tamil Nadu easily by winning a piece with a brilliant combination to snatch a full point.
Both leaders are closely followed with a half-point difference by another host's player Megha Gupta with a personal score of 6.5 point. Megha had gained second spot by defeating Tejaswini Sagar of Mahrashtra in the Bishop's opening game in 51 moves.
In the boys section, former U-10 world champion Girish Kaushik played a brilliant game to win against Vaibhav Suri of Delhi in 57 moves. With this victory, Girish has emerged as a sole leader with 7.5 points.
However, the Championship is still open in both Girls and Boys section, as three more rounds are to go.
Results: Girls: Sunyasakta Satpathy (Ori) 7 won against Ashwini Umesh (TN) 6, Dharni Sree R (TN) 5.5 lost to Sweety Patel (Guj) 7, Srija Seshadri (TN) 6 drew with Shoumi Mukharjee (WB) 6, Tejaswini Sagar (Mah) 5 lost to Megha Gupta (GUJ) 6.5, Monisha GK (TN) 6 won against Aiswarya Gorthy (AP) 5.
Boys: Girish A Koushik (Kar) 7.5 won against Vaibhav Suri (DEL) 6.5, Cyrus Pereira (Goa) 6.5 drew with Gagare Shardul (Mah) 6.5, Das Sayantan (WB) 6.5 won against S. Kaushik (TN) 6, Rakesh Nayak (ORI) 6 drew with Ghosh Diptayan 6 (WB), Sidhant Mohapatra 6.5 (Ori) won against Satwik M (KAR) 5.5.
