Chandigarh, Aug 28 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues today impressed upon the CII delegation the need to strengthen partnership in various programmes to make India a strong and vibrant nation. He was interacting with a high-level delegation, led by Mr Salil Singhal, and Mr Harpal Singh, Chairman and Deputy Chairman of CII, Northern Region, respectively after a presentation on CII's Mission of India, here.
General Rodrigues made a forceful plea for a coordinated endeavour to enable India and its people to take a leadership role in different fields in the comity of nations through human resource development and by improving the service delivery systems in health and education.
He made it clear that Chandigarh does not cater to the needs of only the residents of the city but has emerged as a regional hub for extending support systems to 60 million people of the region.
He emphasized that the CII could play a significant role to speed up projects, like Education City with special emphasis on imparting quality education and scholarships for the poor, Medicity with goal of empowering girls and producing 300 trained nurses, Film City to explore and promote the artistic talent in the region, Theme Park with the focus on developing our own culture.
He said that the CII could also give its expertise and professional support for running social welfare projects like the home for the street children, destitute women, crippled children and mentally challenged kids.
General Rodrigues further said that work on 325 development projects was in progress in Chandigarh and an effective monitoring system had been evolved to check progress.
All the projects are being implemented in the partnership mode and with participative endeavour of the people and rules and procedures are strictly followed.
