No newspaper in Kashmir, national channels also remained off the air
Srinagar, Aug 28 (UNI) As local channels remained off the air for the fifth day today, cable operators in the Kashmir valley switched off almost all national news channels.
Meanwhile, an official spokesman denied the reports that the government has imposed any ban on distribution or circulation of newspapers.
However, Internet and International radio and television channels, including from Pakistan were the only option for people of the Valley to know about the happenings around the world.
No local newspaper hit the stands for the fifth consecutive day today. Readers could not get regional and national papers due to curfew restrictions.
The local television channels stopped airing programmes since August 24 after the District Magistrate, Srinagar, asked them to stop airing news and current affairs programmes, because of the prevailing situation in the Valley.
The channels had telecast live the programmes related to Muzafarabad, UN Military Observers Office here, Pampore and Eidgah chalo, calls for which were given by the Coordination Committee (CC) spearheading the present agitation in the Valley.
