Manipur seeks PM's intervention in Monika case

By Staff

Imphal, Aug 28 (UNI) Manipur has sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention to know the truth why India international weightlifter Laishram Monika Chanu was dropped from Beijing squad at the final moment.

Convenor of the Coordinating Committee Against the Conspiracy to Exclude Laishram Monica from Beijing Olympics by the Government of India, Th Manihar in a letter to the Prime Minister has urged him to intervene on the matter so that justice could be done.

The letter alleged the Sports Authority of India, the Indian Olympic Association and National Dope Test Laboratory, New Delhi, were involved in a conspiracy leading to deliberate exclusion of Monika from Beijing Olympics.

She was excluced just before boarding a flight on a dope charge, which was fabricated, the letter said.

This was a violation of established international norms of dope testing to provide test results 48-72 hours prior to departure, the test results of Monika was provided to her by the SAI on the day of her on August 6 thus leaving no room for her to conduct any sample ''B'' test in a WADA accreditated laboratory.

Meanwhile, Manipur sports bodies have decided to boycott all zonal, national and international sports meets till justice was done to the weightlifter, the letter reminded.
