Mumbai, Aug 28 (UNI) An eight-member delegation representing various religious organisations, led by noted filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt today met Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan here, under the banner of All India Christian Council.
The delegation strongly condemned the attacks on Christians in Orissa and requested the Governor to convey their sentiments to the Union Government, a release issued by Raj bhavan said.
The delegation urged that Centre should step in to save the lives and properties of Christians. The members also demanded that armed forces and relief materials be rushed to the victims there.
The Governor assured them that he will immediately convey their sentiments to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patel.
Dr Abraham Mathai, General Secretary, All India Christian Council, Fr Anthony Charanghat representing the Archbishop of Bombay Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Maulana Saeed Noori, Raza Academy and Sardar Rajinder Singh, Sikh Association of Mumbai were prominent among those present on the occasion.
