Mumbai, Aug 28 (UNI) Children's entertainment channel Nick will go off air for half and-hour on September 27 as the blanking of television screens will be a part of the launch of channel's global 'Lets Just Play' initiative to encourage kids and their parents to step out of their homes and take up a healthy lifestyle.
Speaking at the launch here today, General Manager and Senior VP, Nick India, Nina Elavia Jaipuria said, ''Let's Just Play' and reinforce the importance of physical play. Formative play is important for a kid's overall growth and development and this movement attempts to reinforce our commitment to ensuring a healthier Generation Next.'' The city's eminent personalities including MP Priya Dutt, actor dancer Pooja Bedi and television comedian VJ Cyrus Broacha played a number of games with the kids at ther launch event.
''Kid's are our country's future I believe this movement is the need of the hour. At my end, I am trying to ensure that we create an environment and spaces that encourage physical outdoor play,'' said Priya Dutt.
City based child psychologist, Dr Sharita Shah, who advises ''Outdoor play is key to a child's balanced development, both mental and physical. Play helps kids vent out their stress and pressures.
Through play kids also learn values such as sharing, leadership and team spirit.'' Similar events will also be held in Delhi and Bangalore with support from other personalities like Aditi Govitrikar, Smriti Irani and Chunky Pandey.
The initiative has also received positive response around the globe with supporters ranging from Bill and pop stars Hillary Duff and Ashley Simpson.
