Guwahati, Aug 27 (UNI) The pro-talk faction of ULFA is gaining strength as they are getting support from ULFA cadres of lower Assam also.
ULFA leader, pro-talk faction, Jiten Dutt told newspersons at Nalbari that his group had got feelers from the ULFA cadres of lower Assam.
'' Not all of them are in contact but it is a fact that majority of them are in touch with us,'' he said at Nalbari in lower Assam where he was meeting organisations like Asom Yuva Chatra Parishad(AJYCP).
Dutta is from the 28th Battalion of the ULFA and majority of them have come overground denouncing violence. Their area of operation has been Upper Assam and since their coming overground, the Upper Assam has been largely peaceful.
They held a series of public meeting all over the upper Assam seeking support from the civil society. ''We shall continue to seek support,'' Dutta Said.
The pro-talk camp has been growing with major leaders like Prabal Neog, Mrinal Hazarika closing ranks. ULFA, meanwhile, have warned the pro-talk faction not to lure away their cadres.
''But if the cadres of 709 battalion are willing to join the mainstream, what is our fault?'' Dutta asked.
Police said ULFA had been almost neutralised in upper Assam as most of the cadres were fed up with violence and want to give peace a chance.
The pro-talk faction of the ULFA leaders have set up a designated camp at Sadiya and now talks are on to set up another one at lower Assam for the cadres of lower Assam who are joining the faction in the next couple of weeks.
