Mizoram wins legal battle on ILR
Aizawl, Aug 27(UNI) Mizoram today emerged victorious over a battle on the Inner Line Regulation at Gauhati High Court.
The High Court has objected to the petition against the ILR saying that it could not be regarded as a public interest litigation, Mizoram Home Commissioner C Ropianga said here.
The petition was filed by the Silchar-based North East Plain's People Traders and Youth Federation, which contended that the ILR stood in the way of their right to freely trade in Mizoram.
Following the petition the High Court had also issued an interim order on June 13 that prohibited the state government to take action against those (plains) people staying in Mizoram without ILP.
However, the full text of the 52-page judgement is yet to be received by the Mizoram government.
Ropianga said the outcome of the HC judgement is truly satisfactory.
Law secretary P Chakraborty stated that the petition has ''no merit and liberty has been given to the state government.'' Moreover, the High Court also gave a go-ahead to the Mizoram Trading Regulation, Ropianga said.
