Karnal, Aug 26 (UNI) A viral-like disease blamed on poor sanitation conditions is plaguing this district which ironically has recommended 140-odd villages for Nirmal village award.
The Civil hospital here is being thronged by the patients despite claims of complete control on the ''mysterious disease'' by the district administration.
At least 20 people have reportedly succumbed to the disease in the past 45 days, while as many as 60 patients have been admitted to the Civil hospital with complaints of viral and malaria-like symptoms since yesterday, raising the total number of such patients in this monsoon season to 185.
The villages of Halwana, Modipur, Nagal, Rasalpur Kalan and adjoining villages are the worst-hit.
Sarpanch of Nagal village in Indri block said many patients were in serious condition. Many suffering from the disease complained of stomachache, headache, high fever, vomiting and dizziness.
CMO Nirmal Saini, however, claimed that the deaths were caused due to senile decay, drinking habits and taking treatment from quacks when taken ill.
