Bangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) Karnataka Minor Irrigation Minister Govind Karjol today said that the department had planned to prepare a master plan for the development of 33,000 tanks in the state.
Speaking to reporters here he said a meeting has been convened on September four to discuss on various issues including the setting up of a committee for recovering the tanks which have been encroached by land grabbers in the city.
The city has 72 tanks with a capacity for providing irrigation to 10,000 acres and the land-grabbers had encroached the tank-beds which were worth Rs 50,000 crore in real estate terms. To a question he said that the department would initiate criminal proceedings against the land grabbers.
He said that the department also plans to provide an irrigation facility for additional 50,000 acres of land in the coming year.
