Congress should take responsiblity for violence: CPI
Puducherry, Aug 26 (UNI) Strongly condemning the violence unleashed by a section of people after the Congress Legislature Party(CLP) Meeting on the ECR Road here yesterday, the Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India(CPI) today demanded that the Congress shoulder the responsibility for the incident.
Talking to newspersons here, CPI State Secretary Na Ra Kalainathan said for the last one year, the administration was paralysed, as the ministers were concentrating on replacing the Chief Minister N Rangasamy, instead of initiating the people's welfare programmes, following the ''tussle'' between them.
The violence after the meeting was a bad precedent and was recurring here. If it was within the Congress, no one would question it. Since, it affected the public, it needed to be condemned vehemently, he said, adding that the culprits should be identified and arrested forthwith.
Criticising the ministers for seeking protection from the Lt Governor last night, Mr Kalainathan wondered, who would give protection to the people.
On the reported speech of Youth Congress President, Pandian in an agitation to protest the attack on the car of Union Minister V Narayansamy, that the party volunteers would become ''rowdies'', Mr Kalainathan wondered how the Congress was allowing such speeches.
Mr Kalainathan said the Puducherry unit of the CPI would also endorse the statement for the formation of a Front, excluding the Congress, BJP, and DMK.
The CPI had entered into a constituency agreement with the Congress in Puducherry and there was no alliance, he said, adding that under the agreement he was a nominated a member to the territorial Assembly and hence, there was no need to resign at any situation.
