Mumbai, Aug 26 (UNI) Anuprita Patil of Pune and Pratik Patil of Jalgaon defeated their more fancied opponents to share lead with 12 others with three points in the Maharashtra state selection chess tournament at the Shahji Raje Sports Complex here today.
Anuprita pulled off the biggest upset of the day, shocking top seed Arjun Tiwari of Aurangabad on the top table, while on the third table Pratik accounted for third seed Amardeep Bartakke of Mumbai.
Anuprita defeated Arjun in Torre Attack in just 27 moves, while on the second table Chinmay Kulkarni of Pune won easily against Ravindra Nikam in Pirc Defence within 40 moves.
The top four finishers in this tournament will be able to represent the State in the National 'B' chess championship.
