Jammu: Curfew calls for Poonch-Rawalkote bus suspension

Jammu, Aug 25: The bus service between Poonch town of Jammu and Kashmir and Rawalkote in Pakistan-administered Kashmir was on Monday, Aug 25 'suspended' for the time being due to curfew clamped in Poonch following communal tension, official sources said. ''The administration has imposed curfew for precautionary measures on Saturday evening after around 50 shops of minority community were set ablaze and damaged by the majority community and communal tension gripped the town,'' local sources told.

The fortnight Poonch-Rawalkote bus service was suspended due to curfew in entire Poonch district, sources said and added, ''the bus service, that started with an aim to develop friendly relations with neighbouring Pakistan, was suspended earlier also by the administration for limited period due to the curfew restrictions.'' The entire Jammu region was observing complete 'chakka jam' as the ongoing agitation has entered the 56th day with Jammu bandh for the consecutive 34th day against the revocation of land transfer order and demanding restoration of 40 hectares of land at Baltal back to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
