Jammu clashes injure six people
Jammu, Aug 25: At least six people including a senior police officer of Jammu and Kashmir police were injured in fresh clashes between the protestors and the security forces in different parts of the district, as the entire Jammu region observed complete 'Chakka Jam' on the call given by the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS).
''The protestors took to the streets in Digiana area on city outskirts and engaged in clashes with police and the security forces,'' police sources told UNI and added that agitators pelted stones and glass bottles on the police in which Commandant, 8th Battalion of Jammu and Kashmir armed police identified as Manmohan Singh got seriously wounded and was immediately shifted to the Medical College Hospital while around two of the protestors were also injured.
The protestors of SAYSS- a conglomerate of 45 religious, political and social organisations, which was spearheading the agitation demanding restoration of land back to the Shrine Board- entered into clash with the police in Kathua district also in which three civilians suffered minor injuries in stone pelting.
''The police resorted to lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets to disperse the protestors on busy Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in Digiana area and in Kathua district,'' senior police officer told UNI.
Entire Jammu region is observing complete 'Chakka Jam' as the ongoing agitation has entered into the 56th day with Jammu bandh for the consecutive 34th day against the revocation of land transfer order and demanding restoration of 40 hectares of land at Baltal back to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
