Jalandhar Aug 24 (UNI) NRI Sabha Punjab would organise NRI convention on December 12, which would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, sabha president Kamaljit Singh Hayre said here today.
''More than 2000 NRIs, including MLAs and MPs from foreign countries were expected to attend the convention to discuss the steps taken for their welfare, tackling their grievences and themeasures needed to be taken to make the Sabha more effective,'' Mr Hayre said.
He said that the proposed design of NRI Bhawan had been approved by the committee headed by the commissioner Jalandhar division and its construction would be started very shortly.
Mr Hayre demanded that NRIs should be issued special ration cards or the identity card issued by the NRI sabha should be recognised as proof of their identity for the purpose of getting electricity connection, driving license and other such formalities in Punjab.
He also demanded that NRIs should be included in the District Planning Board and other development committee meetings because they contributed a lot in the development of the state.
