LG Northern Indian Amateur Golf Championship tees off tomorrow

New Delhi, Aug 25 (UNI) With top amateur talents like Gagan Verma, Saurabh Bahuguna, Abhisek Jha, Vikram Rana and others participating, the fifth leg of the LG Indian Amateur Tour 2008-09 -- the LG Northern Indian Amateur Golf Championship-- will get underway at the prestigious Delhi Golf Club here tomorrow.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, Secretary General of the Indian Golf Union (IGU) Wing Commander Satish Aprajit said, ''the LG Indian Amateur Tour is one of the oldest tournaments in Indian circuit, which has been regularly attracting neighbouring countries, will display the cream of amateur talents.'' ''With LG's second year support to Indian Golf Union we hope to promote more amateurs like Kunal Bakshi, Rashid Khan and rate them among the best in the world,'' Aprajit stated.

Reteirating to build the popularity of the game, LG Chief Marketing officer L K Gupta said, ''We are puttig our best efforts to enhance the stature of the game and to bring out great winners in future.'' The Tour, which touches 11 cities incorporating 13 events and makes it a truly nation-wide tour, will witness 80 players-40 from the Order of Merit and 40 from the Qualifying round.

Top players of last four events of the Northern Amateur challenge like Gagan Verma, Saurabh Bahuguna who has also emerged as leaders in recently concluded trials of Eisenhover Cup, Australia will be the attraction in the field.

The other contenders include defending champion Abhisek Jha who shares the top spot with Gagan on the Order of Merit, third ranked Vikram Rana and fourth ranked Manav Das.

The official website of the LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour to know the scores, results, latest tee time, was also launched at the press conference here.

The Tour will culminate with LG 108th All India India Amateur Open, which will see participation of international teams in Kolkata in February 2009.
