Shimla, Aug 25 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor Parbha Rau today asked the state government to submit a pilot project to Central Government for promoting child welfare activities in the state.
She was presiding over the 25th Annual General Meeting of Himachal Pradesh State Child Welfare Council here.
The Governor emphasised the need to launch mass membership enrollment drive to give momentum to the social welfare activities in the state so that maximum members were associated with such activities.
She said that non-official members should try to raise funds for carrying out the activities of Council more effectively and also invited their suggestions for making the functioning of Council more beneficial.
Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, who chaired the meeting, assuring all possible financial assistance for welfare of children said the government would not allow any constraint of funds for the welfare of children.
The Chief Minister said that Rs 1.82 crore had been spent under various state sponsored schemes besides Rs 2.91 crore under centrally sponsored schemes under various child welfare activities during 2007-08.
He said that during the first quarter of current financial year about Rs 58 lakh had been spent by the state government on child welfare activities under grant-in-aid besides Rs 88 lakhs under centrally sponsored schemes as grant-in-aid.
