Goa Govt asks for upgradation of Varsity's level
Panaji, Aug 25 (UNI) Goa government had sent a proposal to the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development, through the Prime Minister' Office, asking for upgradation of the Goa University to the level of a Central University.
Disclosing this in a written reply to a starred question tabled by Dilip Parulekar in the State Assembly today, Education minister Atanasio Monserrate told the House that there was, however, no proposal to set up a Central University while retaining the status of the Goa University.
The Centre provides funds for all the Central universities through the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the rules.
State quota for local students would be finalised by the academic bodies of the Central University and the national reservation policy, as is in vogue, would be applied, he added.
