Lahore, Aug 25 : The PCB is disappointed at the ICC's decision to postpone the Champions Trophy till the next year, but at the same time said that it was a victory for them in so far as it succeeded in getting it postponed, and not shifted to some other country.
Had the tournament been shifted to some other venue, it would have totally taken away the hosting rights from Pakistan
A spokesman for the PCB said the decision was "disappointing", but the postponement was a sort of victory for Pakistan.
"We are naturally disappointed but in a way the postponement is a victory for us. Under these circumstances there were only two solutions: either to relocate the event to Sri Lanka or postpone it. Had it been relocated it would have deprived us of the hosting rights," the Daily Times quoted PCB Director, media and public relations, Mansoor Suhail as saying.
He added that the PCB was sure that the event would be held in Pakistan next year.
The ICC was forced to postpone the tournament after a stiff stance taken by a few international cricketers against playing in strife-torn Pakistan. They cited repeated bomb blasts in the country in support of their aversion of playing in Pakistan.
