AIADMK stage demonstration demaning TN minister's resignation
Nagercoil, Aug 25 (UNI) The Opposition AIADMK today staged a protest demonstration here, demanding the sacking of Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister N Suresh Rajan for allegedly abusing a Special Deputy Collector S Janarthanan and holding out a threat to murder him.
AIADMK volunteers, led by party supremo Jayalalithaa and former minister Dalawai Sundaram held the demonstration in front of the District Collectorate in the presence of party District Secretary K T Pachaimal.
Mr Sundaram urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to take action against Mr Suresh Rajan, facing a criminal case.
The agitation was held after permission was given by the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, after police denied permission.
The minister was accused of abusing Mr Janarthanan, belonging to scheduled caste community by mentioning his caste name.
Mr Suresh Rajan and his supporters have also been charged that they held out a murder threat against Mr Janarthanan when he was participating in a free Colour TV distribution function on April 18.
The official had lodged a complaint with the District Collector, demanding action against the minister and his supporters, but no action was taken. Three months later, after he threatened to move the Human Rights Commission(HRC), police had registered cases against the minister and others under Prevention of Atrocities Act, J Jayalalithaa said.
