Agartala, Aug 24 (UNI)The Trinamool Congress Tripura State Committee has observed a protest day and staged demonstration to express solidarity with the party supremo Mamata Banerjee's move to go for an indefinite dharna at Singur from today.

About two hundred party workers organised a rally here yesterday, which was followed with an eight-hour dharna near Civil Secretariat in protest against the ''illegal possession'' of land by the Tata Motors in Singur.

Trinamool Congress Tripura Chief Advocate Arun Chandra Bhowmik demanded the Tata and the West Bengal Government to return the 400 acre of land, for which farmers had not taken their compensation.

'' Both the state government and Tata have been trying to make an eye-wash before the common people that returning the excess land to the farmers have legal problem. However, the Land Acquisition Act has specific provisions for returning land to the owners, '' Mr Bhowmik said.

He claimed that Ms Banerjee had emerged as the main opposition to the Left parties in the country by raising voice against the anti-people activity of the West Bengal government in Singur and Nandigram.

''While our protest will continue with staging demonstration and burning of effigies, civil disobedience will also be observed across Tripura to protest the West Bengal government's move to forcibly acquire farmland from the unwilling farmers,'' Mr Bhowmik further informed.
