Fatehgarh Sahib, Aug 24 (UNI) Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Avtar Singh Makkar today praised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for ''resolving'' the controversy that arose over the demand of creation of a separate administrative body for Gurdwaras in Haryana.
Talking to mediapersons at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Mr Makkar, who came here to preside over a meeting regarding preparations for the inauguration function of World Sikh University at Fatehgarh Sahib on September 1, expressed gratitude to the PM for patiently listening to him, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SAD acting president Sukhbir Singh Badal about the issue of the creation of a separate Gurdwara committee in Haryana.
It seemed from media reports that the Prime Minister had taken serious note of the issue and now a separate Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee would not be set up in Haryana as the Centre has asked Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to refrain from pursuing the matter, he added.
Mr Makkar said during recent meetings with the PM, all the facts were presented to Dr Singh with logic by him and the Badals and it was made clear to the PM that there was no need to create a separate Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in Haryana.
