Lashkar ultra held, arms cache recovered
Jammu, Aug 24 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, police arrested top militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and recovered Hawala money from his possession, which had to be disbursed to Lashkar commander in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources today said here.
''Based on reliable sources that Hawala money was being transported from Kashmir to Doda for disbursing to LeT commander Mohammad Iqbal alias Abu Umair, resident of Nallah Marth, Doda, a nakka was laid down en route Doda,'' police told UNI.
However, at nakka near Khelleni, a tempo traveler was intercepted by the police and during frisking, one militant namely Farooq Ahmad Malik, resident of Bagla Barth, of LeT outfit was arrested and hawala money worth Rs 1.95 lakh of was recovered from him, sources added.
Police has registered a case and investigations were in progress.
Meanwhile, security forces recovered a dump of cache during search operation launched in Poonch district and also destroyed improvised explosive device (IED) in Ramban district, official sources said.
''Based on specific information, troops recovered cache in Poonch area, which included one pika belt with 99 rounds, one pika belt with 49 rounds and other miscellaneous stores,'' they told UNI.
Searches were in progress but no arrest has been made so far.
A major tragedy was everted timely when personnel of 23 RR and police destroyed an IED, which was detected from a hideout at Hemal Nakh area.
''The IED was detected on National Highway near Banihal area of Ramban district,'' sources added.
