Jammu transporters on strike till Aug 30
Jammu, Aug 24 (UNI) The Jammu Transporters Union will be on strike till August 30 to protest attacks on drivers in Kashmir region.
Expressing concern over the harassment of drivers by miscreants, hundreds of transporters last evening took out a rally against the attacks on them in the Valley.
''With the ongoing agitation over the Amarnath land row, the transporters are being targeted in Kashmir by some miscreants, who are trying to create communal divide between two regions while around 35 drivers have gone missing,'' Harbans Singh, president of the Union alleged.
The trucks of missing drivers were found parked en route Kashmir on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, he added.
Mr Singh said the police authorities and administration had failed to find out any information related to the missing drivers.
The union members, meanwhile, said no truck would go to Kashmir carrying essential commodities and other goods unless the administration made security arrangements for the transporters.
