Patna/Lucknow/Guwahati, Aug 24 : The flood situation in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Assam continues to be grim.

In Bihar, the Kosi river is wreaking havoc in Supaul, Madhepura and Araria districts.

Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav made an aerial survey of the flood hit areas this afternoon.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed government officers to evacuate all the people from flood hit areas at the earliest.

The flood has affected over 50 lakh people and at least 64 people were reported to have died in flood related incidents.

In Uttar Pradesh the flood situation remains grim even though the river Ghaghra has started receding in Ayodhya. The river is still flowing 74 centimeters above the danger mark according to the Central Water Commission. In Ballia and Barabanki it is still above the red mark.

Meanwhile, the rivers Kuano, Gomti and Sharda have also caused flood in several areas of UP.

Moreover, the release of additional 1,45,000 cusecs of water from Narora Barrage has added to the grim situation in Kannauj and Farrukhabad districts.

In Assam, almost all the rivers of the Barak valley including Barak are in spate while Rukini and Kushiara have already crossed the danger level.

Heavy rains have raised fears of another spell of flood in Dholai and Sonai revenue circles of the Valley bordering Mizoram.
