Universities should impart knowledge of new fields: Patil
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Aug 23 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said the universities should make efforts to impart the knowledge of new sectors like electronics, genetics, space, ocean and nano-technologies, which have great importance in the era of globalisation.
Addressing a programme of 50th anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU) at its history museum lawn here, he said the students need global knowledge along with cultural and spiritual knowledge.
Mr Patil said the BAMU university should have a vision of spreading education on global level rather than be limited to any region, state or country.
He said the university may have experienced ups and downs during its 50 years tenure, but despite this, it kept developing that is a great thing.
''The ventures implemented by the university during the golden jubilee year, indicate that the perspective towards life and knowledge is becoming wider,'' he said.
He hoped that the university would move with the pace of time and get recognition on national and international level.
''We should thank those vice-chancellors, registrars, teaching and non-teaching staff for their contribution to the building of the university during these 50 years,'' the Minister said.
Mr Patil said the university should chalk out a plan as to which direction it wants to move in the years to come.
He said ''We should pray that the knowledge from this university should reach out to every nook and corner of the world.'' He said many new sectors have come before us recently.
''Not only the augment of universities is vital, but also the improving standard. So, this university should lay stress to augment the level of education on university-level,'' he said, adding, that the university should require all the facilities to achieve the goal.
''The students should be imparted knowledge in a way that they should be able to be self-employed. As per our education policy, the stress has been laid on technological knowledge. But, knowledge of culture and spiritualism should be imparted with them,'' Mr Patil said.
