Surjit, PNB Hockey academies book quarter-final berths

Mumbai, Aug 23 (UNI) Surjit Hockey Academy (Jalandhar) and Punjab National Bank Hockey Academy (New Delhi) scored identical wins to storm into the quater-finals of the Mumbai Hockey Association organised All India Academies hockey tournament at the Mahindra Stadium here today.

Surjit Hockey Academy beat Tamil Nadu Hockey Academy 3-1, while Punjab National Bank Hockey Academy overwhelmed a spirited MP Hockey Academy by the same margin.

A superb brace by Sukhdeep Singh helped Surjit Hockey Academy go past Tamil Nadu Hockey Academy. He put his side ahead in the 22nd minute to give them a 1-0 lead at half time.

In the second half Surjit Hockey Academy dominated with Sukhdeep completing his brace in the 60th minute and then two minutes later defender Satbir Singh converted a brilliant direct set piece to put his side up 3-1. P Vikram converted a penalty corner for a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the game.

In the match between Punjab National Bank Hockey Academy and Tamil Nadu Hockey Academy the former took the lead in the fourth minutes via Ved Prakash and two minutes later Arjun Antilz made it 2-0. Vikas Choudhary reduced the margin for Tamil Nadu in the 20th minute, but another goal by Siddharth Shankar in the 53rd minute made the issue safe for Punjab National Bank Hockey Academy giving them a 3-1 win.
