Panaji, Aug 23 (UNI) Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today said efforts were underway to develop Goa into an educational hub, with at least ten estates coming up soon, the first one being at Bambolim.
Addressing a meeting after felicitating eminent teaching and non-teaching staff of Shree Damodar Higher Secondary School of Science in Margao city, Mr Kamat said this was part of fulfilling the government's commitment to giving top priority to education and health sectors in the state.
He announced Rs 50 lakh as special grant to the educational institutions, which had completed 100 years of their existence and Rs 25 lakhs to those completing 75 years.
In this connection, Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik announced Rs 15 lakh assistance under the MPLAD scheme to Matha Gramastha Hindu Sabha.
He also favoured conducting a survey of government educational institutions and aided schools with a view to provide them with basic infrastructure facilities for their effective functioning.
