Hyderabad, Aug 23 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Cabinet today urged the Centre to provide Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the fishermen community.
The Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, decided to pursue the matter with the Union Government, following a request from Port Minister, official sources said.
The state government has already taken up the issue of grant of ST status for Vadera, Valmiki and Rajakulu communities.
The demand for inclusion of the fishermen community was first made during the erstwhile Kasu Brahamanada Reddy government.
