Sankararaman murder Case posted to Sept 24
Puducherry, Aug 22 (UNI) III Additional District Judge V Arumugam posted the Sankararaman murder case, in which Kanchi Acharyas Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi are the main accused, to September 24 for further hearing.
The case came up before the court today when Principal District and Sessions Judge Krishnaraja, dealing with the case, was on leave.
Sixteen out of the 24 accused, including the acharyas, failed to turn up before the court.
Separate petitions citing the reason for absence was filed by the respective counsels in the case except for accused No 17 Dilpandiyan.
With the Supreme Court directing the Puducherry government to appoint public prosecutor in the case while disposing the special leave petition filed by Jayendra Saraswathi, the court was informed that the government was in the 'process of appointing' the public prosecutor.
In the absence of public prosecutor, District Public Prosecutor Shanmugam appeared on behalf on government.
However, pending appointment of the public prosecutor in the case, the judge posted the case to September 24.
