Srinagar, Aug 22 (UNI) To avoid any accident, the Power Development Department (PDD) snapped power supply on all routes being used by the people to reach Eidgah here where a Friday congregation would be addressed by senior leaders of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference this afternoon.

However, one person was killed and three others were wounded critically after coming in contact with a live wire when they were travelling on top of a vehicle on way to Eidgah at Kulgam.

The meeting was organised by the Coordination Committee, headed by both the factions of the HC spearheading the present agitation demanding opening of Jehlum valley road for trade following alleged economic blockade and attack on muslims in Jammu.

Thousands of people from different parts of the valley are arriving at Eidgah ground in buses, trucks and other vehicles besides motorcycles, scooters and on foot holding green and black flags.

Since most of the processionists are travelling on the top of trucks and buses, there was apprehensions about them coming in contact with the live wires on the route, PDD sources said.

They said to avoid any accident due to contact with the live wires by the processionists, it was decided to snap the power supply on routes being used by them (processionists).

However, it had affected the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and media organistions on the Exchange Road, who had to switch over to generators.

Power supply was also snapped to Bonapora, Nowgam, Natipora, Badshah Nagar, Rambagh, Sonawar, Batmaloo, Alochi Bagh and entire down town.
