Agartala, Aug 22 (UNI) A Special Police Officer (SPO) allegedly shot himself dead after shooting his colleague following a dispute over a mobile phone in West Tripura.

Police said Arun Datta (22) of Hazaripara under Kalaynpur police station shot dead his colleague Subrata Sukladas (21), who was accusing him of stealing his mobile phone before turning the gun on himself.

According to reports, Subrata lost his mobile two days ago and had been suspecting fellow officer Arun of stoaling it.

Yesterday Subrata again confronted Arun and asked him about the phone and allegedly abused him. Angered by constant abusing, Datta picked up his self-loading rifle and allegedly shot Subrata from point blank range.

Before the other officers at the camp could react, Datta shot himself in the head and died instantly, police said.

In another incident last night, a Bangladeshi intruder was shot dead in North Tripura in an encounter with BSF personnel when some miscreants entered into Unakoti Range under Kailashahar PS with an elephant crossing the Indo-Bangladesh Border by cutting boundary fencing.

BSF officials said here today that following the intrusion bid BSF personnel launched a search operation in the area and the miscreants, hiding there, suddenly fired on the BSF and the personnel also retaliated.

After a brief gun battle, the BSF recovered a bullet riddled dead body and an elephant.
