Chennai, Aug 22: The Hyderabad based-ICFAI Society, accused of running study centres for technical education without approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), told Madras High Court that its branches in Tamil Nadu were not offering any courses.

Claiming some ''vested interests'' were behind the public interest writ petition against the university, ICFAI informed the division bench comprising Justices S J Mukhopadhaya and V Dhanapalan it was a 'not-for-profit' education society running its activities since 1984.

The institute had not sought approval from the AICTE as it was not offering any degree or diploma, the ICFAI said in its counter affidavit.

''It can be safely concluded the approval from AICTE is not required,'' it said in the counter.
