Panaji, Aug 22 (UNI) The Goa Legislative Assembly has constituted a six-member House Committee headed by environment minister Aleiso Sequeira to probe the functioning of the Goa Pollution Control Board (GPCB).
Replying to a query on grants for Environment ministry last evening, Mr Sequeira told the House that the panel would look into the competence of the members of the GPCB and its functioning forthwith.
The other members of the committee are Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar, parliamentary secretaries Agnelo Fernandes and Nilkant Halarankar, legislators Babu Kavlekar, Deepak Dhavlikar and Ms Victoria Fernandes.
The minister also assured the House that the government would constitute a Solid Waste Management Corporation for managing the garbage and waste disposal in rural areas.
A pilot project under the ministry will be set up to tackle the garbage menace for which the government had released Rs 12.4 lakh to Fr Agnelo Technical Institute for setting up an organic waste convertor plant at Verna.
It would be replicated in other panchayats once the project starts from August 26, would be successful.
He also said the government had initiated tough measures against the Costal Regulation Zone violators by issuing notices to the panchayats to initiate action against the delinquent.
