New Delhi, August 21 : Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren on Thursday met the Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The meeting comes in the wake of withdrawal of support by the JMM from the Madhu Koda government in Jharkhand which has been reduced to a minority.
The state governor Syed Sibtey Razi has asked Madhu Koda to prove his majority on the floor of the House on or before the 25th of this month.
The Congress had earlier said that if Soren is able to muster numbers to form the government in the state, the party will support him.
Soren today claimed that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has promised to support his bid for chief ministership.
After his meeting with RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, he told repoters that the RJD chief had not only promised his party's backing, but also assured him of help in securing the support of Independents.
Before leaving for Delhi on Wednesday, Soren has claimed the support of 45 legislators in the 82-member Assembly.
Assuring him of support, AICC Secretary Abdul Manan said that nine Congress MLAs would support Soren on the floor of the House and also make efforts to make him the chief minister.
Meanwhile, Koda has expressed confidence in winning the trust vote on August 25.
