Udupi, Aug 21 (UNI) Ms Manorama Madhwaraj, MP today expressed her deep anguish over Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board(AIADB) for not holding public hearing before land acquisition for 1015 MW Coal based Thermal Power Project of Nagarjuna Power Company (NPC) as per the government notification and the Supreme Court direction.

Addressing the press conference here, while expressing deep concern over the fresh new land acquisition notification issued by the KIADB to 300 families for laying pipelines for intake and discharge of treated water to the sea to distance of 8 km from Ulloor to Thenka Yermal sea shore, she warned that the intake of sea water and discharge of the hot and contaminated water, coal run-off and ash pond over runs back to sea by the power plant would totally destroy the coast where the fish catch was already facing problem.

She said that instead of forcing coal based thermal projects on the people, the government should seriously think about other energy sources such as solar, gas based projects and nuclear projects.

Ms Manorama charged that the government had not followed transparency policy in case of Nagarjuna project. Although the five gram panchayats where the proposed project was coming up, Taluk Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat have passed resolutions against the project, the government was forcing the project on the people.
