Guwahati, Aug 21(UNI) Former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has fielded his 17 year old son to take on the collective might of the AASU and its adviser Dr Samujjal Kr Bhatacharrya.
As the AASU has dug in with the demand that Prafulla Mahanta must be 'sacrificed' to ensure unity of Assam's regional parties for his 'past sins', the class XII student turned youth leader came out of oblivion to defend his two-time chief minister father.
Shyamanta Kashyap, secretary of the Assam Youth Organization, criticized Dr Bhattacharrya for opposing his father.
''Dr Bhattacharrya is a middle aged man and should not remain in the All Assam Students Union(AASU). He should not use that platform to criticize others for no reason,'' he said.
The AASU is opposed to Mahanta's re-entry to the AGP, holding him responsible for ''secret killings'' in Assam and his 'insincerity' in implementing the Assam Accord.
