Kolkata, Aug 20 (UNI) The All India Trade Union Congress today claimed that the workers' participation in today's left trade unions- called 24-hour nationwide general strike had crossed all earlier records.
'' The workers' response to the strike is spontaneous, remarkable and unprecedented. It's a unique demonstration to protest the Congress-led UPA government's anti-people and anti-worker policies.
The Centre must take lesson from the success of this strike and should take appropriate corrective measures in immediate future, '' state unit of AITUC general secretary Ranjit Guha told newspersons here.
'' More than 15 crore workers have participated in today's strike and it has exceeded all earlier records and got responses from all quarters of society, '' he claimed.
He said the working class had once again demonstrated their firm determination to fight the anti-people policies of the UPA government.
The Left trade unions called the nationwide general strike in protest against the UPA government's refusal to accept their six-point demands besides other things.
