Beijing, Aug 20 (UNI) Vijender Singh outpunched Carlos Gongora of Ecuador 9-4 to enter the semifinals of the middleweight (75 kg) category of the boxing competition and ensure at least a bronze at the Olympic Games here today.
Vijender started on an aggressive note, punching holes in his opponent's defence to take a 2-0 lead in the first round.
The nimble footed pugilist from Bhiwani continued to outfox his opponent, opening up an impressive 7-2 lead by the end of the third round.
A desperate Gongora went all out in the fourth and final round but Vijender thwarted all his attempts to emerge victorious.
