New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) Aiming at providing choice of long distance carrier to the consumers, TRAI today recommended to the government that national and international long distance operators be permitted to offer domestic and international long distance voice calls through calling cards.
The move is also aimed at encouraging innovative tariff plans, besides enabling the customers to make long distance calls from telephone of any access provider.
In this regard, the telecom watchdog has sent recommendations on ''Provision of Calling Cards by National and International Long Distance Operators'' to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
The consultation paper on carrier selection, issued on May 7 this year, took note of various issues, including estimation and sharing of upgradation cost, technical and operational problems, billing, licencing and interconnection issues.
