Panaji, Aug 20 (UNI) A modern Renewable Energy Park will be set up in Margao city under the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) within coming 18 months, chief minister Digambar Kamat announced here today.
Disclosing this at a function at the Goa Science Centre to commemorate Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas at Miramar today, the chief minister said half of the project cost, which comes to Rs two crore, would be borne by the Centre and the rest by the State.
The park will be equipped with devices that run on solar and wind energy and will house facility to treat organic garbage. It would also be useful for the student community to get themselves acquainted with the process of conversion of solar energy into electricity.
Meanwhile, Mr Kamat recalled the glorious services of late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, particularly in the IT and Telecom sectors.
Later, the Chief Minister along with chief secretary J P Singh distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions organized by GEDA on the topic of Renewable Energy.
The Chief Minister also released the brochure brought out by GEDA on the occasion in presence of its member secretary Dr N P S Varde.
